Intro to Crochet

Level: Beginner

Intro to Crochet class at Yankee Wool Works, Sturbridge, MA

In this class, we will cover the basic crochet stitches, & practice beginner techniques. We will be making a Simple Market bag, using the techniques of chain stitch, single crochet, & double crochet. Some knowledge or experience with crochet is a plus, but not required. We will cover gauge, hook sizes, yarn weights & different fiber types, and how to read basic pattern instructions, and pattern recommendations. This is a hands on class, questions are encouraged, & as time allows will address any individualized questions or topics. This class will give you the foundational skills to start to crochet blankets, bags, simple accessories, garments, toys.

Materials: Materials fee is included, and will be provided. Please bring a crochet hook (size H – 5mm), it may also be useful to also have sizes I & G, but not required. It may also be helpful to bring a notebook & pen.

This class will meet March 2nd, March 16th, & March 30th from 5-7 PM at Yankee Wool Works in Sturbridge MA.

Kate Swalec has a BFA in Fiber Arts from Massachusetts College of Art & Design & is a lifelong fiber enthusiast and fiber artist, she has over 30 years’ experience crocheting & knitting. She is also a knowledgeable weaver, sewist, & spinner, and has dabbled in almost all of the fiber arts.
